Research

The Philippine herptilian fauna is something that is still to this date something that is poorly explored. A country consisting of over 7100 islands makes research of the fauna problematic.

With enthusiasm and time more and more will be understood about all the species. Here at HerpaWorld we think it would be a shame not to contribute with what we can. So in parallel with the conservation-projects we also do research.

Firstly we have already after one year found what we think in a near future will be described as new species of reptiles. Possibly very endangered ones also.
What we would like to do is develop a list of species in a catalog of Philippine reptiles.

We are both doing research on these animals out in the field and of course we have the chance to study them in captivity. This research of behaviour is something that is very important and useful for us in order to keep them successfully and get them to reproduce.

Another matter of importance that our studies on these animals involve are parasitic research. With new species you will also possibly find new types of parasites. And without research on the parasites, you have no idea of what type of treatment the animals need to be free from the parasites.
