Introduction of the company

Mario Lutz, founder and CEO of Herpaworld inc.

Mario Lutz has always had a very big interest for animals and wildlife in general. Since the age of 6 he has had reptiles as an interest. A wide experience with breeding animals ranging from birds to mammals and reptiles has led him where he is today. 7 years ago he left his homecountry of Germany going to South Africa before Thailand and then to end up here in The Philippines and starting this project of conservating endangered animalspecies.

HerpaWorld inc. has existed since the beginning of 2004. In the beginning the idea was to set the company going more in a commercial direction. So the plans were not only intended for conservation purposes. Since a while back, the company has had a change of management and now the commercial purposes of this company does not longer exist.
The plan is to make survival of endangered locally existing animalspecies possible.

How the construction began

Since very little info exists and much of the Philippine reptilefauna is still to this day unexplored, ongoing research is the other main target we have with this company along with conservating the species.
With our breeding programs and future release projects this is something we are set to help these animals out with.

At the moment we have two major parts here at the property. We have one outdoor part for our monitor lizards, birds, smaller mammals and crocodiles. The other part which is more developed is our breeding house for pitvipers and cobras. This house is equipped with a total of 114 professionally designed terrariums, an office and a big baby-station where we keep all the offspring from our breeding animals.

To give you a better idea of what work we are actually doing to preserve these animals, here follows a short description:

First of all as we mainly keep carnivorous reptiles here we need to breed feeding animals for them. We have set up a breeding station for rodents. As it looks right now we are in need of 4-500 pieces of mice/rats every month. So daily work with cleaning enclosures, feeding and monitoring breeding is needed for the rodent station. Except that we always have to keep fresh meat and fruits/vegetables to feed our animals with.

The daily work which is needed for the animals consists mostly of misting, feeding and giving fresh drinking water for all our animals. Cleaning all enclosures and check on their condition is also very important. Unfortunately as you all know animals can get sick. That is the time you have to be quick and know how to treat them right. As most of the animals we keep are venomous it is important for us to have staff that is experienced with handling and has knowledge about these types of animals.

As you might already have understood, this business is something with high running-costs for food, supplies and staff salaries and basically no incomes.

If you would like to help these animals, you actually CAN! If you would like to make a donation to us, this is something you can read about under the section called further information.

We are also happy when it is possible to let volunteers to come here and work with us.

Our idea is to open up the business for the public in the form of a zoo. This is something that is very important for us so we can show and inform people about these animals we are trying to help out!
